In 2012, I explored Europe for my travel memoir, Twinned With. I fell for France – its food, people, architecture, regions north to south. But not its signs saying “Closed”, “No entry”, “Come back later”. In every town, doors were shut and gates locked.
Though with creativity and tenacity, I always found someone to bend the rules and help me research. It feels like a metaphor. With support, there’s always a way.
