My favourite lyric is “Colour is its own reward” from ‘Fingers of Love’ by Crowded House. It’s such a complete thought, and beautiful song. Neil Finn wrote it in Jamaica: “We watched these extraordinary shafts of light come through the clouds.”
The sky is an artist. Poets and songwriters – playing in rhythm, rhyme and metaphor – find ways to capture it in words. Their original phrasing can be so seductive.
